Victoria Day BBQ & Bingo!

May 17, 2012 by Char

I bet you are all looking forward to this long weekend! I can’t avoid feeling patriotic, not only is it Victoria Day but it would also be Queen Victoria’s 145th Birthday!

I like to celebrate this kind of holiday with a Barbeque… It’s relaxed, casual, no plates to wash up after and lots of yummy food options to make. Salads, grilled corn, and lots of dips so people can snack on while the guys are firing up the meat. This combined with good company and a couple of cold beers is perfection!

I was reading this article in the Globe & Mail and now I am craving grilled tacos… though not so much making them lol, I will definitely try the “Salted Caramel Bars” they sound delicious!

And here are CanadianDollarBingo’s Victoria Day Activities so you can plan around them:

Once everyone is full and tired, the kids tucked in bed, it is Bingo time

  • Every night this weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday!
  • RED ROOM
  •  $10,000.00 in prizes
  • 10PM and 11PM!

***In addition to this we will be celebrating Queen Victoria’s 145th birthday with a fabulous 145% Special Match Bonus on the first deposit that you make during this joyful weekend! ***

God save the Queen! Cheers!

I found some interesting info in Wiki for us to polish up our Canadian History:

The birthday of Queen Victoria was a day for celebration in Canada long before Confederation, with the first legislation regarding the event being in 1845 passed by the parliament of the Province of Canada to officially recognize May 24 as the Queen’s birthday.

Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, May 24 was by imperial decree made Empire Day throughout the British Empire, while, in Canada, it became officially known as Victoria Day, a date to remember the late Queen. In 1977 it was moved leaving the Monday before May 25 only as both Victoria Day and the Queen’s Birthday.

Across the country, Victoria Day serves as the unofficial marker of the end of the winter social season, and thus the beginning of the summer, it is during this long weekend that many summer businesses such as parks, outdoor restaurants, bicycle rentals, city tour operators, etc.— will open.
